Biography
Since receiving my PhD at Bournemouth University (2015), I have continued my academic role as Associate Professor at CPUT. Besides lecturing responsibilities, I have supervised postgraduate students and collaborated with national and international researchers in related mega-events legacy studies, still with a branding emphasis. I have authored journal papers, book chapters as well as contributing to relevant industry publications, mostly linked to sport tourism mega-event legacy, place branding and sport event themes. In particular, I have continued to focus on place branding legacy through sport, extending my PhD study to include city brands and other sport elements besides mega-events. My post-PhD and current research activities have taken into account academic developments in the field, such as an increasing awareness of “leveraging” and not merely legacy; a more critical perspective of mega-events globally, coupled with an awareness of legacy from other event types (especially home-grown events); and an emerging body of knowledge from developing economy nations.
