Biography
Marshall Keyster is a Full Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa, where he has been a faculty member since 2012. He holds a Ph.D. in Plant Biotechnology from Stellenbosch University, completed in 2010, and a Master's degree in Biotechnology from UWC. With an academic career spanning over a decade, Professor Keyster has established himself as a leader in plant biotechnology, focusing on abiotic stress tolerance, plant-microbe interactions, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Professor Keyster's research is grounded in multidisciplinary approaches, incorporating molecular biology, plant physiology, and advanced biotechnological tools to enhance crop resilience under environmental stresses. He has authored over 65 peer-reviewed research articles and contributed to several book chapters, with an impressive Google Scholar H-index of 20 and a C2 National Research Foundations (NRF) rating, reflecting the impact of his scholarly contributions. He is also an active peer reviewer and editorial board member for high-impact journals such as Plant Molecular Biology Reporter and Frontiers in Plant Sciences.
An accomplished educator, Professor Keyster has supervised numerous postgraduate students, including 10 Ph.D. and 41 M.Sc. graduates, many of whom have earned distinctions for their academic achievements. His dedication to mentorship extends to hosting 6 postdoctoral fellows and collaborating with international scholars from institutions such as the University of Missouri and the Centre of Biotechnology of Borj Cedria in Tunisia.
