Biography
Prof Cang Hui is a Professor in Mathematics at Stellenbosch University and holds the South African Research Chair (Tier 1) in Mathematical and Theoretical Physical Biosciences. He is also the coordinator of several research programmes in biomathematics at Stellenbosch University and the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (Cape Town, South Africa). His research focuses on cross-scale patterns and dynamics of biodiversity, eco-evolutionary dynamics, invasion dynamics, and structural emergence in ecological interaction networks. He combines mathematical modelling, statistical inference, and empirical data to investigate the origin, structure, and dynamics of biodiversity, including compositional, functional/trait, and phylogenetic/genetic dimensions, in space and time.
