Biography
I began my career at the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) in 2006 as a student intern. In 2007, I enrolled in the ARC’s Professional Development Program (PDP), which enabled me to pursue and complete both my Honours and Master’s degrees in Wine Biotechnology at Stellenbosch University, graduating in 2012. Later that same year, I was appointed as a Junior Researcher in the Post-Harvest and Agro-processing division (formerly Post-Harvest and Wine Technologies) at ARC Infruitec-Nietvoorbij. I currently serve as the project leader of the Oenological Yeast and Bacterial Biobank Project, funded by the National Department of Agriculture (DOA), and coordinate eight additional Biobank projects across the ARC. My work involves close collaboration with the Biodiversity Biobanks of South Africa, other ARC divisions, and external institutions and communities. With a strong passion for Molecular Biology, I play a central role in the molecular characterization and identification of microorganisms within our team. Over the years, I have mentored several students across microbiological and agro-processing research projects. **Key responsibilities in my current role include: ** * Management and maintenance of the microorganism genebank and associated culture collection database * Conducting and supporting research on microorganisms housed within the genebank * Providing molecular biology expertise to a range of ongoing research projects
