Biography
Dr Odun-Ayo's doctorate study in Biotechnology from the Durban University of Technology was on the inhibition of colorectal cancer in mice by microencapsulated probiotics. In his postdoctoral study at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, he worked on the biomarkers in HIV-associated preeclampsia in South African women. He received an award for his works presented at the MSSA conference in 2016. Dr Odun-Ayo’s research focuses on therapeutic medicinal plants and microbial products modified to develop an immune checkpoint inhibitor (immunotherapy) in cancer. His work has generated many international peer-reviewed publications and he is a member of professional bodies. He assists with undergraduate teaching and postgraduate research supervision in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Consumer Sciences, as well as Horticultural Sciences. Dr Odun-Ayo works to improve medicinal plant profiling for biopharmaceutical products using innovative and emerging technologies and contributes to the development of students’ growth and capacity building.
