Abstract: Restructuring has taken over all aspects of human activity, including the electric power industry, due to the massive rise in population and industrialization over the last few years. Due to highly competitive market needs among participants, the restructuring of the electric power industry has resulted in some significant changes in deregulated power systems. Overloading has resulted, causing transmission lines to become congested. Congestion can be defined as a violation of transmission line capacity constraints that endangers the system's dependability and security. Furthermore, an open-access transmission network exacerbates congestion difficulties. As a result, Congestion Management (CM) in deregulated power networks is essential to the electricity power market. This review explored the causes of congestion and numerous strategies and techniques for congestion mitigation on transmission networks. This study goes into specific detail about transforming a vertically integrated power network into a restructured one. A deregulated network's inherent characteristics explain the resulting congestion concerns. Furthermore, numerous methodologies, strategies in transmission congestion management, and the benefits of congestion mitigation are discussed. This paper examines technical and non-technical congestion methods and optimization methods. Copyright © 2023 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved.
