Abstract: Many organisations adopt and implement information technology (IT) but fail to operationalise it. As a result, the process of implementation is continually repeated without achieving the goals and objectives, which are often to gain competitive advantage and sustainability. This study employs structuration theory as lens to examine and understand the factors that influence operationalisation of IT strategy in an organisation. The case study approach was employed, and semi-structured interviews technique was used to collect data. The hermeneutics approach was used in the analysis, which was guided by the duality of structure from the perspective of structuration theory. From the analysis six factors were found to primarily influence the operationalisation of IT strategy in an organisation. Based on the factors, a model was developed, which is intended to guide both IT and business managers in the operationalisation of IT strategy.
