Abstract: District Six, a suburb of Cape Town destroyed during the 1950s in terms of the Group Areas Act, has become a household name in South Africa. Its rich cultural heritage has been preserved and celebrated through various plays and musical festivals. Despite its obvious cultural heritage value no proposals have been tabled for the formalised development of cultural and heritage tourism activities, although several development plans have been tabled for the redevelopment of the area. Through this article the authors wish to address this shortcoming by developing a model which would facilitate such cultural and heritage developments, and add to the range of attractions for the general public and tourists which Cape Town has to offer.
