The project started as an educational exchange program in 2010 between CPUT and The Hague University for Technology. The project focuses on the problem of people in informal settlements not having warm water and on decreasing the cost of creating warm water for middle income groups. People in these informal settlements currently use kettles on gas stoves as well as electric kettles if they have electricity, but both of these ways are expensive to them with the current increases in electricity prices in South Africa. People in middle income households are also affected by the increases in electricity and are seeking alternative solutions, but current systems available on the market are extremely expensive.en_US
