The Built Environment 3, Proceedings of the 3rd Built Environment Conference, Cape Town, July 6-8, pp. 268-283en_US
The health and safety performance of the construction industry as a whole and the associated accident costs to the industry are unacceptable. The concurrent costs of construction related accidents and fatalities are considerable. The economic benefits or costs of construction health and safety accidents are seldom analyzed or considered within the South African industry as this information is largely unknown and therefore unspecified. If the true costs of construction accidents are established; then only can the industry make informed decisions regarding alleviation and mitigation.en_US
