Abstract: PURPOSE: As global waste generation continues to surge, the need for sustainable and human-centered waste management strategies has become more critical. Hence, this paper explores the transformative role of digital technologies in supporting sustainable and human-centered waste management practices within the context of Construction 5.0 (C5.0). DESIGN / METHODOLOGY / APPROACH: A systematic review approach was utilised in achieving the aim of the study. The review adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses standards. A comprehensive literature search was carried out across different electronic databases to find germane peer-reviewed studies published between 2013 and 2023. FINDINGS: The findings from the SRA divulged that by enabling real-time monitoring, predictive analysis, and transparent decision-making, digital technologies enhance operational efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and empower communities to participate actively in waste reduction. Furthermore, contractors’ awareness, waste management-related policy, legislation and regulation, and the use of Building Information Modelling are critical components of Sustainable and Human-Centric Waste Management Practices for waste monitoring. RESEARCH LIMITATIONS / IMPLICATIONS: This study focuses on secondary data related to waste management practices in the construction industry. Emerging technologies not covered in the study may present additional opportunities and challenges that must be studied. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: The article emphasizes a human-centered approach, arguing that digital tools must be integrated with inclusive policies and behavioral interventions to provide equal access and long-term sustainability in the context of Construction 5.0 (C5.0). ORIGINAL / VALUE: This study contributes to the discourse on Sustainable and Human-Centric waste management practices by presenting a roadmap for leveraging digital innovation to foster resilient, inclusive, and environmentally responsible waste management systems.
