This article examines the impact of leadership styles on service delivery within selected municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal. Public organisations, particularly local municipalities, face persistent challenges in fulfilling service delivery mandates due to ineffective leadership, inadequate skills, financial constraints and poor governance. Employing a quantitative approach, this research involves 150 municipal employees in various departments to evaluate preferences for different leadership styles and their correlation with the results of the service delivery. Using a descriptive research design, data analysis includes descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The findings reveal a strong preference for democratic and transformational leadership styles, highlighting the significance of collaborative decision making and charismatic leadership. These styles are associated with improved employee motivation and improved service delivery performance. Recommendations include fostering community engagement, mitigating political interference, and implementing capacity-building initiatives to enhance leadership capabilities within municipalities. The study underscores the need for municipalities to adopt participatory and transformational leadership approaches to address existing challenges, ensure effective governance, and achieve sustainable community services. This research provides valuable information for municipal leaders and policymakers, advocating for leadership strategies that promote collaboration, inclusivity, and a shared vision to address service delivery challenges in the Harry Gwala District.en_US
