Abstract: Little has been done to establish the uptake of skills development and up-skilling initiatives that are being facilitated by the National Electronic Media Institute South Africa (NEMISA). Some of these initiatives are based on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) that brings in an interesting subject of navigating challenges of human computer interaction in the process of learning the subject matter. This study explores secondary data to establish the interest in participating in cybersecurity skills development by South African citizens. The study use data that was accessed from Coursera's MOOCs platform. This dataset was accessed through NEMISA. Study findings confirm that citizens do have an interest in enhancing skills with a particular bias towards enhancing information technology skills, cybersecurity skills included. However, descriptive statistics used to analyze the dataset suggest the numbers of students on enrolment, active participation, dropout, and course completion differ according to course. There are also findings that do not align with expectations. For instance, the data set shows a high dropout rate and inactivity on both courses that have been reported to be demanding and less demanding according to the literature. Findings in this study can be used to formulate future research and motivate a continued use of MOOCs in promoting skills development.</description>

Abstract: Honeybush tea is a sweet, caffeine-free infusion with a&#xD;
honey-like aroma made from processed leaves, flowers, and twigs of&#xD;
Cyclopia plants. The tea plants are leguminous shrubs, native to the&#xD;
Cape Floristic Regions of the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces of&#xD;
South Africa. Although it is reported that these plants have been in&#xD;
existence for many years, dating back to 1705, it is not clear how they&#xD;
were previously utilised. Out of the 23 known species, only C.&#xD;
subternata, C. genistoides, C. longifolia and C. intermedia are&#xD;
predominantly used to make tea while smaller portions of C. maculata,&#xD;
C. sessiliflora and C. plicata are fused to supplement and cater for the&#xD;
higher demand. In addition to its unique taste, flavour and aroma, this&#xD;
remedial tea is famous for having minimum tannin content and high&#xD;
antioxidants. It can be consumed in a fermented or unfermented state&#xD;
(black or green, respectively). Its benefits have led to health-conscious&#xD;
consumers being more appreciative, thus, increasing demand. A field&#xD;
study was conducted where C. subternata plants were subjected to&#xD;
three different water stress levels (well-watered, semi-stressed and&#xD;
stressed) over three months. A descriptive sensory analysis was used&#xD;
to compare the infusions prepared from these three water deficit&#xD;
treatments. Severe water-deficit stress seems to boost the sensory&#xD;
profile of the infusions, in particular, the ‘woody’, ‘fynbos-floral’,&#xD;
‘rose perfume’, ‘fynbos-sweet’ and ‘sweet spice’ aromas as well as a&#xD;
sweet taste.</description>

Abstract: Endophytic fungus play a crucial role in protecting food&#xD;
crops against phytophagous insects through endophytism. In this&#xD;
greenhouse study, two sets of potted lettuce plants were inoculated&#xD;
with one of four fungal conidial concentrations: 0, 1 × 106&#xD;
, 1 × 107&#xD;
,&#xD;
and 1 × 108&#xD;
 conidia mL-1. The first set of plants was used to test the&#xD;
effect of B. bassiana inoculation on aphid infestation levels on&#xD;
lettuce in meshed boxes. The second set of plants was used for&#xD;
assessing the effects of fungal inoculation on secondary metabolite&#xD;
contents. The results showed that the fungus did not significantly (P&#xD;
&gt; 0.05) affect insect infestation levels. However, total polyphenol&#xD;
contents varied significantly with conidial concentrations. The GCMS analysis detected a wide range of volatile compounds, with two&#xD;
well-known insect repellents, 3-octanol and 2,4-di-tert-butyl-phenol,&#xD;
occurring at significantly (P &lt; 0.01) higher concentrations in the&#xD;
fungus-treated plants than the control plants. In conclusion, B.&#xD;
bassiana inoculation significantly enhanced polyphenol content and&#xD;
the quantities of some volatile compounds.
