Biography
Biosketch and CV
Ilaria Corsi is currently Associate Professor of Ecology and Ecotoxicology at the University of Siena.
She earned her degree with full mark in 1995 in Biological Sciences at the University of Siena within a EC project of University Plymouth (UK) (Erasmus scholarship). In 1996 obtained a Leonardo UETP scholarship and Summer course language scholarship at the King's College, Cambridge (UK). From 1996 to 1998 worked as a fellow in national research projects (PRISMA2-CNR and PNRA) to study biomarkers in marine organisms. In 2001 she got the PhD in Environmental Biology with a dissertation entitled: Endocrine disruptors in fish: bioaccumulation and interaction with cytochrome P450 system. Since then she got four years position as Assistant Researcher at the University of Siena within a EC INTERREG II project: Protection of marine ecosystem, bioindicator and biomarkers in pollution monitoring. In 2002-2003 she was a Fulbright scholar at the Stanford University, Hopkins Marine Station (California, USA) for studying cell suicide in fish embryos. In 2005 she got a permanent position as Researcher at the University of Siena and collaborates in several European and National projects also as project leader funded by Ministry of Environment, Health, University and Research and Agricultural Policies. She is currently head of the “Ecotoxicology Laboratory” at the Department of Physical, Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Siena.
Research interest
Main research interests are ecotoxicology of classical and new emerging contaminants including endocrine disruptors, pharmaceutical and personal care products and nanomaterials. Biological/toxicological responses induced by contaminants exposure are investigated at different levels of biological organization from molecule, cell, tissue and whole organism in terrestrial, freshwater and marine species through a wide panel of biomarkers from detoxification/biotransformation pathways to neurotoxicity, genotoxicity, cytotoxicity, endrocrine disruption and reproductive impairments.

She is a reviewer for several International journals, for the EC-7FP and Horizon2020, the Italian Ministry of University and International research institutions.
Teaching activities
She is lecturer of Ecotoxicology and Laboratory of Ecotoxicology- Analysis of Contaminants in Environmental Matrices in the Second Level degree in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Sustainability (ESA) of the University of Siena. Since 1998 to date she has been teaching in several courses as Ecology, Applied Ecology, Laboratory of Ecotoxicology in bachelor and second level degree courses.
She is currently head of the section “Ecotoxicology of emerging contaminants and nanomaterials” at the Department of Physical, Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Siena (http://www.dsfta.unisi.it/it/ricerca/aree-di-ricerca/la-ricerca-scienze-ambientali/ecotossicologia).
She is member of the Board of the PhD School in Earth, Environmental and Polar Sciences (http://www.unisi.it/didattica/post-laurea/dottorati-ricerca/scienze-della-terra-ambientali-e-polari-1), responsible of the University Student Orientation for the Bachelor degree in Environmental and Natural Sciences (L-32) and ESA (LM-ESA) (http://www.dsfta.unisi.it/it/didattica/orientamento-e-tutorato), member of the Body for Animal Welfare of the University of Siena .
Since 2011 to date she is chair of Marine Ecotox Focus Group of the NanoSafety Cluster of DG Research and Innovation of the European Commission (http://www.nanosafetycluster.eu/working-groups/2-hazard-wg/marine-ecotox.html).
She has more than 80 publications in peer review journals available in at: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Ilaria_Corsi/
