Biography
Dr. Jonas Sagbo is an NRF Y2-rated researcher whose work focuses on neurodegeneration, oxidative stress, ferroptosis, and translational drug discovery. His research integrates natural product pharmacology, cellular neuroscience, and mechanism-based therapeutic discovery to identify compounds that protect against neuronal injury and metabolic dysfunction. He has held research appointments at the University of Mpumalanga, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, and most recently at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies (USA), where he investigated therapeutic strategies targeting neuronal vulnerability and regulated cell death. He has secured competitive research funding from the National Research Foundation of South Africa and contributes to postgraduate student supervision and collaborative research projects. His current interests include ferroptosis, synaptic vulnerability, and the development of novel therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative diseases.
