Abstract: In most of the publications the dispatch problem is formulated using fuel cost and emission function without considering valve point effect. The paper formulates a multi objective dispatch problem with valve point effect considered in both fuel cost and emission function. Most of the literature uses penalty factors such as Max-Max, Min-Min, Average, and common to combine both fuel cost and emission function in one criterion. In addition to this, Max-Min and, MinMax penalty factors are proposed in the paper. Lagrange’s method is formulated to solve the combined economic emission dispatch problem with proposed penalty factors. The considered dispatch problem is solved for the IEEE test system of five generators by using Matlab software. The results show that Min-Max penalty factor method gives minimum fuel cost and emission values in comparison to other penalty factors.
