dc.description.abstractThe widespread deregulation and restructuring of electric power utilities throughout the world and the consequent increase in competition amongst utility companies has brought about the desire for improved economic efficiency of electric utilities and the provision of better service to energy consumers. Thus, there is a growing research interest in power system distribution network fault detection and diagnostic techniques. Transmission and distribution lines are subject to faults caused by lightning, storm, snow, insulation breakdown, birds, etc. Fault detection and diagnosis is a central component of Abnormal Event Management (AEM). The early detection and diagnosis of these faults can expedite the restoration and return to service of this lines. This paper provides a comprehensive review of research work on the various methodologies in power system distribution network fault detection, fault classification, faulted section identification, and fault location.en_US
