Abstract: Ultrafast nanomechanical resonators have attracted significant attention in research, and have promised a wide range of future applications. Choosing appropriate materials, optimizing fabrication processes, applying ultra-sensitive ultra-high-frequency readout techniques and adapting such devices to a variety of applications are all important subjects to address. This article reviews the current status of this field, and discusses future development directions.
